Van Conversion Flooring Options Compared

Van floors take abuse: grit, water, dropped tools, and flex over ribs. Build a subfloor that spans ribs without squeaking.

Subfloor first

Many builders use 1/2″ or 3/4″ plywood attached with bolts and compression strips into factory tie-down points—not screws into thin sheet metal alone. Leave access to drain channels if water enters.

Finish surfaces

  • Vinyl plank (LVP): waterproof, easy to clean, tolerates movement if floated correctly
  • Laminate: cheaper but less tolerant of moisture at seams
  • Cork or rubber: comfortable, good in wet entry zones

Avoid heavy ceramic tile unless you understand flex and weight impact on MPG.
