Installing Wall Panels in Your Camper Van
Wall panels turn ribbed metal into something that feels like a room. Most DIY builds use a batten grid, insulation between ribs, and plywood or composite panels on top.
Batten grid
Horizontal or vertical furring strips create a flat plane and an air gap. Attach with rivnuts, bolts, or adhesive systems rated for vibration. Keep wiring routes planned before you close walls.
Panel materials
- Birch plywood — durable, accepts stain or paint
- Lightweight composite — saves weight high on walls
- Tongue-and-groove cedar — aesthetic, heavier, smells great
Finish
Round exposed corners. Use flexible trim where panels meet curved van ribs. Leave removable access panels for electrical and plumbing.
