Designing a Van Water System That Works

Most builds use a fresh tank, a grey-water tank or jug, a pump, and PEX or braided lines. Keep it simple until you have camped twice.

Layout principles

  • Fresh tank inside insulated space in cold climates
  • Grey water stored in sealed container you empty legally
  • Shore fill and vent lines accessible for cleaning
  • Shutoff valves at pump and tank

Winter note

Lines along exterior walls freeze first. Route plumbing through interior cabinets and add drain-down procedure for shoulder seasons.
